Upper Extremity Orthotics
The orthotics pictured below are a small sample of some of the devices available here at Access Prosthetics. We would be happy to schedule a free consultation with one of our Orthotists where we can discuss your unique needs. Working in concert with your doctor we will design an orthotic that fits you and your life style.
Cascade Elbow ROM Orthosis
After an injury or surgery to the elbow, an Orthosis can be provided to limit the range of motion of the joint. Often, a reduced range is appropriate to allow the bones or tissues to heal before the stresses of activity are once again borne by the joint structure. For simple fractures and relatively stable joint alignment, prefabricated bracing may be an option.
Custom elbow range-of-motion Orthoses can be designed from rigid thermoplastics to provide more robust support in cases of greater instability. In this case, an Orthosis consisting of custom-molded plastic shells, Velcro straps, and a hinge which can be set to allow or disallow certain ranges of motion can be provided. The range of motion will be set by the Orthotist according to the Surgeon’s specifications and will not need to be adjusted by the patient.
This type of orthosis is appropriate for:
-
Dislocation of the radial head
-
Fracture of the radial head
-
Fracture of the olecranon
-
Dislocation of the elbow
-
Serious or severe soft tissue trauma, such as a muscle tendon rupture
-
Post-surgical repair of the above
